- Student Life
The Capítulo Santiago (St. James Academy Chapter) of the Spanish National Honor Society promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, both within the building and throughout the greater community. Members of the Spanish National Honor Society dedicate several hours throughout the year to Spanish tutoring at St. James and at Holy Cross Catholic School. Events include hosting a Latin Dance Night, visiting the Day of the Dead Altars at the Mattie Rhodes Gallery, enjoying authentic Hispanic foods at local bakeries and restaurants, and hosting a Cena Familiar (Family Dinner) at St. James for Hispanic families within our community, when we enjoy Latin dancing, authentic food, and Spanish conversation.
Students enrolled in Spanish 3 Honors or above, who have earned a grade of 90% or greater in their last semester of Spanish, and who also have an overall GPA of 94.5% or above, are invited to join. Members must receive a teacher recommendation and maintain an active status in working towards the success of our events such as tutoring, and the family dinner.
We have a lot of fun exploring Hispanic culture and food, conversing in Spanish, and promoting the study of the Spanish language, both within St. James, as well as the broader community!
The St. James Academy Santiago Chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is comprised of Spanish students in their third year or study or above. SNHS students dedicate several hours throughout the year to projects within the Spanish speaking community, tutoring others in Spanish classes, and exploring Hispanic culture in the area.
