STUDENT HANDBOOK

Please familiarize yourself with the 2019-20 student handbook. Please note: Amendments may be made throughout the school year. 

NEW STUDENT CHECK-IN NIGHT

August 13, 2019: New Students and their Parents

  • 5:30-6:00pm: During this time you may find your locker, walk your class schedule, purchase spirit wear, talk to the school nurse, learn more about Retreats, Volunteering, Christian Stewardship Projects, Crimson Club, and more!
  • 6:00-8:00pm: Freshman Social and Parent Social/Programming. Light dinner will be provided.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Freshmen (& Senior Captains): August 14

  • Freshmen 101: 8:35am-1:00 p.m.
  • Red Carpet 7:45-8:30 am, All School Mass 8:45am, Dismissal 1:00pm.
  • Wear school uniform, do not bring laptop or backpack.
  • We will have a picnic lunch starting around noon. Students can either bring a sack lunch or buy a $5.00 lunch at SJA. All Freshmen students and the Senior Captains are required to attend; all other seniors are invited but not required to come and help lead this day.

All Students: August 15

  • 8:35am-3:20pm
  • Wear school uniform.

 

SCHOOL PICTURES

All School Pictures will take place on August 14th. 

Seniors: August 14th by appointment between 10:00am-4:30pm. 

  • Boys wear SJA white button down shirt and tie. Navy Jacket will be provided. Girls wear uniform. Navy sweater and necklace will be provided. 
  • Senior Photo Sign Ups 

Juniors: August 14th from 10:00-12:00

  • Please wear school uniforms.

Freshmen: August 14th from 12:00-1:00

  • Freshmen will be at SJA for their Freshmen 101 orientation day. Dismissal is at 1:00pm this day.
  • Please wear school uniforms.

Sophomores: August 14th from 1:30-3:30

  • Please wear school uniforms.

3:30-4:30pm: Anyone who missed the designated time.

Catholic College Fair

  • September 4, 2019 from 1:10-1:50pm
  • Location: St. James Academy Gym
  • Students and parents are encouraged to attend

Private School College Fair

  • September 5, 2019, 6:30-8:30pm
  • Location: Rockhurst High School

Mom’s Club Wine Social

  • September 5, 2019, 7:00-8:30pm.
  • Meet and mingle with fellow SJA Moms.

College Financial Aid Presentation

  • Tuesday, September 10, 2019, 6:30pm in Dining Hall.
  • A College Financial Aid Director will present and provide a Q&A for parents.

Mandatory Senior Parent Night

  • September 10, 2019, 7:15-8:00pm in Dining Hall.
  • For all Senior Students and Parents
  • Packets will be given out that contain important dates, deadlines, and information pertaining to senior year, graduation and project graduation.

College and Career Information Night

  • September 25, 2019, 6:00pm.
  • All students and parents are encouraged to attend!

PHYSICAL & CONCUSSION FORM

If your child will be participating in a sport they are required to turn in their Physical and Concussion form dated after May 1, 2019 to the Main office (or emailed to abomhoff@sjakeepingfaith.org) by Thursday, August 15th at 4:00 p.m. This is for athletes to be able to participate in tryouts.

Sports Physicals will be offered (by appointment) at St. James Academy on Friday, August 9th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. by Dr. Nelson from St. Luke’s Hospital. The fee is $20.00. Please bring Physcial and Concussion Form and $20 with you.

Fall sports begin August 19th. 

Failure to turn in this form by the deadline will result in tryout ineligibility.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Class-specific school supplies will be given by each teacher during the first week of school.

All students will need the following: TI84 Plus Calculator, Personal Earbuds, Pocket folders, Notepads, Pens and Pencils, 3 full-sized boxes of tissues and 2 containers of anti-bacterial wipes.
