On September 12, officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors finished in the top 1% of the 1.6 million students tested, and they have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships. St. James Academy is proud to announce that three seniors have been named Semifinalists. Please join us in congratulating John Matulis, Caroline Satsky, and Theresa Scheier for this tremendous achievement! St. James received notification on September 20th that three other seniors have received recognition as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students comprise the next 34,000 highest scorers on last spring’s PSAT, putting them in the top 3% of all tester’s nationwide. Congratulations to Jack Calonge, Mark Schermerhorn, and Caleb Wunder for this accomplishment! Additionally, Jack Calonge and Anastasia Mendoza were invited to participate in the National Hispanic Recognition Program for scoring in the top 2.5% among all Hispanic and Latino test-takers in their region. “To have three Semifinalists and seven total students from this class recognized by the National Merit program is a testament to how hard our students and staff work to achieve excellence in all areas of life,” said Andy Tylicki, President of St. James. “The honorees are great representatives of their class, and we could not be more proud of what they have achieved up to this point.” Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program will be announced in February.
